Have to say that I was surprised that the Mariners dealt James Paxton to the Yankees. Not familiar with the other two prospects the Yankees sent back to Seattle besides Justus Sheffield, who in the past has been rated as a top lefty pitching prospect. In any case, it looks like the Paxton move is a signal that the M's have reached the beginning of a rebuilding stage.

Speaking of pitchers, if I were the Oakland A's I would make an attempt at reacquiring Sonny Gray from New York. Since he has flopped in the Bronx, the Yanks probably would not ask a whole lot in return for him. Plus the fact that Gray has succeeded in the past with Oakland and they need a starting pitcher to replace Sean Manaea, who is likely to miss all of 2019 due to arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Bryce Harper was said to have turned down 30 Million 10 yrs from the Nationals during the past year. If that's true I don't see why any club would offer more then this. An intriguing team to possibly make an offer would be the Wilpon Mets. What better way to sell tickets and try going mano a mano with the Yankees for New Yawk dominance which the Steinbrenner gang now has then to sign the leading free agent and stick him in your outfield batting 3rd driving in runs.

Although it has not been finalized as of this writing, it looks like the Mariners and Mets are zeroing in on a trade that would ship 2B Robinson Cano and closer Edwin Diaz to the Mets in exchange for OF Jay Bruce, Relief Pitcher Anthony Swarzak, and a couple of unknown prospects. Not clear is how much of the remainder of Cano's massive contract the Metsies would assume.

From an M's perspective, I can understand the reasoning behind trading Cano (lucrative contract, declining production (which was not helped by his PED suspension last season), and the need to rebuild aka get younger, more athletic). But I cannot understand the urgency to trade Diaz. He is 24, does not make a lot of $$$ right now, and is one of the best closers in the game. Regardless, if this is to be a complete teardown by the Mariners, you are looking at the possibility of at least five years of futility before turning it around (see the Houston Astros model). Painful medicine for a team that has not played a post-season game since 2001. Yikes.

The AL West is weak. It's surprising a team like Seattle that contended last year would tear down. Diaz helps the Mets awful bullpen , Cano is a terrible defensive player. The young players Seattle got in return is the key. Along with the prospects obtained in the Paxton trade Seattle might be stockpiling prospects which in a not a bad move I guess chasing Houston and Oakland. Jay Bruce is the Mets getting rid of his contract I guess he's a DH - Of in the Nellie Cruz mode.

Rather surprised that the Arizona Diamondbacks would choose to unload 1B Paul Goldschmidt prior to the season. He is not scheduled to hit free agency until a year from now, so one would figure that if the Dbacks still feel that they have no chance of signing him, they would at least wait for the trading deadline, so as to get more of a package for him with more teams in the mix competing for his services.

Having said that though, I am not sure about the three prospects the Cardinals gave up. In any case, though the Red Birds have definitely added to their lineup a very powerful bat and run producer for 2019 at least. We shall see if Goldschmidt decides to stay in St. Louis for the long term beyond this season.

Sad story in Venezuela as MLB vet Luis Valbuena along with a retired MLBer were riding in a car that crashed due to bandits leaving a boulder in the road in an effort to get cars to slow down pull over so the hiding banditos come out of hiding to rob ...The car crashed and as they two players lay dying they are robbed of belongings.

That latin basket case of a country under socialist corrupt gubment rule is not a nice place to play winter ball. Makes Baltimore and Southwest Chicago look like Beverly Hills.

Yeah. I heard about this also. The other player who was tragically killed along with Luis Valbuena was Jose Castillo, an ex MLB infielder who had previously played with the Pirates, Giants, and Astros, as well as some teams in the Japanese league.

Indeed. There is just no end to the bad news that comes out of that country. Just absolutely horrible times for the people of Venezuela. I would doubt that even as recognizable a figure as native Venezuelan Ozzie Guillen would go anywhere near there at this point.

Surprised that if Jerry Jones can enter Canton and the Football HOF that a Titan of the baseball world for decades George Steinbrenner was not even close to getting into Cooperstown posthumously.

When Steinbrenner took over the sinking ship known as the Yankees mid 70's they were on skid row literally. The paint was peeling on the Casa Ruth built the toilets were well real toilets in the Bronx a scary and dangerous neighborhood back in the day well before Guliani let the police be police.

Fast forward thirty years after the shipping magnate from Cleveland took over ownership from the clown's of CBS that let the Yankees fail, Steinbrenner took over and won back to backs in the 70's with the Willie Randolph Reggie Jackson crew then four more in the 90's with Jeter and the gang.

The force of personality that was George Steinbrenner took a once storied franchise in the gutter and brought them back to prominence now playing in a shiny new Casa and contending again year after year with Hank the son running the ship.

Speaking of the Yankees, I definitely would not trade Miguel Andujar unless I received a top of the line stating pitcher in return a la Noah Syndergaard or Madison Bumgarner. However with regard to the former, I would doubt that the two New Yawk teams would engage in any blockbuster trade even with a third team involved such the Miami Marlins, who have been dangling catcher J.T. Realmuto.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see where reigning Oklahoma Sooners Heisman Trophy Winner and Oakland A's 1st round draft choice Kyler Murray will wind up. But of course the left in its obsession with politicizing absolutely everything will continue in its quest to uncover tweets Murray typed back in 2010 and 2011, so as to paint him as an unreconstructed homophobe. Yes, Virginia in today's politically correct world nobody is safe or immune from the attack of the PC virus.

Brian Cashman has stated Machado is the target and has no interest in Bryce Harper in an already over crowded OF. Remember Clint Frazier ? Anyhow as I predicted I believe Magic Johnson will pull out the Hollywood stops and reel in Bryce. Can you imagine Bryce and the Dodgers heating up that rivalry with the Giants ? West coast version of Red Sux vs. Yanquis...
