Quote: The 80 game suspension begins immediately upon its announcement because Robinson Cano is not appealing it. Thus assuming his injury has healed by then, Cano will not be eligible to play until around m...

I can't believe Cano is this stupid...unbelievable....what might have been a hof career is now tainted...he's shot.

If Cano sits 80 games why post season as well ? I mean 80 games from now gives you the month of Sept but if they qualify for post season that too ? This is worst then Ezekiel Elliott sitting 6 games the Cowboys circling the drain at that point.

Cano doesn't even look like Cano in the Bronx. He looks like a Barry Bonds starter kit. Those PED milkshakes will get you everytime.

To my mind over the past 4 seasons or so Mike Trout is the best player in baseball. And a Northeastern product at that, where weather plays havoc on little league and high school baseball schedules. The warm weather states Florida, Texas California, Georgia seem to produce a boatload of MLB and NFL guys. Trout from Dennville, New Jersey. And a rabid Eagles fan, a sure flaw in the personality.

Just a theory. But I definitely believe that the suspension of Robinson Cano from the post-season stems from the backlash MLB received back in 2013 when Nelson Cruz (then with the Texas Rangers) was suspended 50 games for PED's, yet was cleared to play in the wildcard game.

Regardless, a complete lack of any kind of sound judgment on Cano's part. No getting around the fact that this will severely diminish his chances of getting inducted into Cooperstown.

Interesting how this is now the fourth player from the 2009 World Champion Yankees squad busted for PED's.

Cano joins Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera, and Andy Pettitte in this category. And then there was the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox with two prominent names linked to steroids. Those being Manny Ramirez and David 'Big Papi' Ortiz.

Roger Clemens another prominent Yankee caught red handed.

Then you have Bonds McGuire Sosa Palmeiro and on and on. In this particular period in Baseball most of those caught lately with the exception of Cano seem to be small fish. Guys with one foot in the minors. The above mentioned All Star doping team may have taught the current era of stars in ain't worth it.

Poor Seattle fans. Been forever they have anything to brag about and this squad looked to be a wildcard contender but the likes of Toronto the Angels seem better positioned at the moment to advance without a division title.

And thank heavens for Bartolo Colon. He gives Texas another quality start in a run towards giving a contender a plug in starter come August/September maybe the Rangers can squeeze a minor leaguer out of someone in a swap if he keeps this up. And Adrian Beltre with another hamstring is for certain at the end of a wonderful HOF career without the tainted scandal bug.

A couple of surprising moves in MLB today.

The Red Sox designate Hanley Ramirez for assignment. Interesting that Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval, who arrived in Boston as expensive free agents are now both gone. Mitch Moreland takes over at first base, as J.D. Martinez remains entrenched at the DH spot, while Ramirez will most assuredly be traded with Boston assuming much of his contract.

The other head scratching move is the Tampa Bay Rays trading outfielder Denard Span and closer Jesus Colome to the Seattle Mariners for a couple of mid level pitching prospects.

A good deal for the Mariners who are definitely in the playoff hunt, while for the Rays it is the kind of move that a team makes when they have thrown in the towel for the season and thus are rebuilding. Something that has become all too common is sports with all too many organizations.

From a promising start to the mother of all June swoons, the Rocks seem to look for new ways to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I do remember the Diamondbacks earlier losing something like 10 out of 11, or something like that, so perhaps the home team can recover.

The Rockies have some great talent a wonderful infield great center fielder but they have the Rangers same problem. Pitching and you can't consistently win without it.

Speaking of pitching Bartolo Colon with this 244th career win tonight in KC for Texas is one win away from tieing Dennis Martinez for most wins by a Latin American born MLB hurler.

In a season where your 30-44 Ranger fans have to look far and wide for nuggets. Although truth be told Bartolo Colon at his age does not represent any long term future answer for Texas lacking pitching. Hopefully he continues to pitch well and can be used as a chip towards the trading deadline for Texas to acquire a young player with upside for 2019.

Cole Hamels is owed 20 million next yr if Texas picks up his option. I suspect the Red Sox Yankees Cubs Mariners and the like are scouting all his starts with an eye towards a trade. It's a selling yr in Ranger land.

With regard to the Rockies and the rest of the NL West for that matter, it is surprising how mediocre that division has been to this point.

The Central is about where one would expect it to be with the Cubs, Brewers, and Cardinals all in the hunt.

While in the East, the biggest surprises are how good the Phillies and Braves have been. But I still think that the Nats are going to win that division when all is said and done. They further bolstered their bullpen by acquiring Kelvin Herrera from KC for prospects. That gives the Nats a solid bullpen quartet of Doolittle, Herrera, Madson, and Kintzler.

But as far as the Nationals finally winning a playoff series and ultimately going deep into October, we will have to see that to believe it. Having said that though, it would be great to have a Nationals-Mariners World Series. The only two remaining franchises who have yet to participate in a Fall Classic of the 30 active teams.
