I could become a baseball fan if more games were like this one!

June 28, 2009

 Final   1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9    R  H  E
 Lake Elsinore
 8  3  5  2  4  0  0  6  5    33  32  1
 High Desert
 1  2  0  3  5  0  0  3  4    18  26  5
Recap | Box | Audio
W: Teague (1-1, 5.40); L: Adcock (5-4, 4.54)
HR: LE: Payne (6), Clark 2 (2), Carroll (1), Darnell (1). HD: Peguero (15), Lo, K 2 (9), Yepez, Jo (4), McOwen (3).

Check out the above box score from this California League game yesterday between the Lake Elsinore Storm and the High Desert Mavericks, won by the visitors, 33-18!  Is that incredible, or what?  So much for baseball being a boring sport (which, I confess, I believe it to normally be!)

Have you ever played the game? Like been in a team and played it?

mgf --- As part of my work, I've been forced to attend baseball games semi-regularly for the last twenty-plus years.  I dearly hate that sport!

If I should ever become dictator of the world (and don't say it can't happen), I think my first order would be to change the rules of baseball so that if a pitcher throws twice to first base without getting the runner leading off, then the runner automatically gets to go to second base.  And then I'd rule that a batter with two strikes gets to hit only two foul balls before he's automatically out!

And while I'm on the subject of rules changes... regarding soccer, I'd eliminate both the offsides rule and get rid of the goalie!  Can you imagine how boring a sport like basketball would be if saddled with soccer-style rules prohibiting the fast break, and if each team kept an extra player on a step-ladder right next to their basket to keep opponents from scoring?  Can you imagine hearing an NBA final-score reported like: "The Celtics defeated the Lakers today, one-to-nothing?"  That's soccer!  I hate it!

Thanks for posting this linescore Anon.  Imagine the High Desert team scoring 18 runs and still losing by 15 . In football you expect a score like that, but in baseball that is rather incredible to say the least.

Lezfriend --- You are so right!

But what a treat for the fans if they enjoy a whole lot of scoring!  Personally, I think I'd have loved it had I been there in the stands!

You poor bugger. hehehe

One thing I dislike about Basketball and American Football is that the score changes in a quick of a flash, the world football (aka soccer)  doesn’t do that.

I love that.

batter up!

I would get rid of the off side rule and that stupid away goals rule.

mgf --- I'm curious.  Are you from Europe or Australia?  I notice you called it "American Football," which usually indicates one or the other, as most Americans just say "football."  (And you use words like "bugger.")

And if so, how is it you like baseball when it's not really popular overseas (except in the Caribbean and the Far East)?

All the things you want to change are part of the beauty of baseball...I'd rather watch a 1-0 game than a 33-18 any day of the week...33-18 is sloppy baseball.

Anon in Bama

I could get into a friendly argument and call soccer the real football, but i am not going to.

Yes, I am from Australia. And on occasions I like watching American football. Im actually susprised that you wernt aware that i was from Australia?

Football in America is referred to as either American Football or gridnine (I think) It is better then a game down here called Rugby League, which is a modified version of Rugby.

Here is our bid to lure the worlds major footballing event!
