When 'The Twilight Zone' expanded to one hour episodes in Season 4, it drew some understandable objections from both critics and viewers alike.

Still, there were some notable episodes which hold up well today including:

Valley of the Shadow
He's Alive
Death Ship
Miniature
Printer's Devil
The New Exhibit
The Incredible World of Horace Ford
On Thursday We Leave for Home

Thanks for refreshing my memory as to Diana Hyland...a truly lovely actress..taken much too soon. I just ordered season 1 of "Alias Smith and Jones"...Ms. Hyland in in one of the episodes...This exchange between her and Hayes:

Hannibal Heyes: Don't worry, outlaws never shoot ladies.
Clara Phillips: You mean they have a code of honor?
Hannibal Heyes: No, they have a shortage of ladies.

Happy to help. The thing that always struck me about that 'Spur of the Moment' episode is the way Diana Hyland was able to pull off the portrayal of her character Anne Henderson at both age 18 and 43 quite convincingly.

An excellent performance by Ms. Hyland in an episode that does not immediately come to mind in a list of TZone critical and viewer favorites.

Also saddened by the passing of John Hurt, a phenomenal British actor who died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 77.

So many great performances over the years including his stirring portrayal of John Merrick in 1980's 'The Elephant Man' and in what I believe to be the definitive film version of George Orwell's chilling Twilight Zone-esque novel '1984.' John Hurt's depiction of Winston Smith in that movie was truly a work of cinematic art at its finest.

With the passing of Don Rickels, I am reminded of a very good Twilight Zone episode called 'Mr. Dingle, the Strong', starring Burgess Meredith. Rickles had a supporting role as one of the bar patrons. It was a very funny episode, which illustrated the all too human tendency of people to first use and then ultimately abuse their strengths (whether physical or intellectual).

From Rod Serling's opening introduction:

'This is Mr. Luther Dingle, a vacuum cleaner salesman whose volume of business is roughly that of a valet at a hobo convention. He's a consummate failure in almost everything but is a good listener and has a prominent jaw. And these two unseen gentlemen are visitors from outer space. They are about to alter the destiny of Luther Dingle by leaving him a legacy, the kind you can't hardly find anymore. In just a moment, a sad-faced perennial punching bag, who missed even the caboose of life's gravy train, will take a short constitutional into that most unpredictable region that we refer to as The Twilight Zone.'

Since Vera Miles was cited on the Don Rickles thread, thought it fitting to mention that VM also starred in the TZone episode called 'Mirror Image.'

Rod Serling intro:

'Millicent Barnes, age 25. Young woman waiting for a bus on a rainy November night. Not a very imaginative type is Ms. Barnes: not given to undue anxiety, or fears, or for that matter even the most temporal flights of fantasy. Like most young career women, she has generic classification as a quote "girl with her head on her shoulders." All of which is mentioned now because, in just a moment, the head on Ms. Barnes' shoulders will be put to a test: circumstances will assault her sense of reality and chain of nightmares will put her sanity in a block. Millicent Barnes who, in one minute, will wonder if she's going mad.'

Thanks for the reference to the hour episode of 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' with Vera Miles, which I have yet to see. I am going to have to check that one out. There still are a number of Hitchcock TV episodes I have not seen unlike all of the 'The Twilight Zone' episodes, for which I have viewed multiple times. There should be an AHP marathon, like there is for the TZone. Especially the inexplicably unreleased episodes, which you mentioned.

Sorry to learn of the passing of Martin Landau. An excellent actor with memorable performances both in movies and television. Two of the most outstanding IMO were his Academy Award winning performance in portraying Bela Lugosi in 'Ed Wood' and his foray into 'The Twilight Zone' playing the hunted former KGB Major Ivan Kuchenko attempting to defect in a most underrated episode entitled 'The Jeopardy Room.'

From the Serling opening monologue:

'The cast of characters—a cat and a mouse, this is the latter. The intended victim who may or may not know that he is to die, be it by butchery or ballet. His name is Major Ivan Kuchenko. He has, if events go according to certain plans, perhaps three or four more hours of living. But an ignorance shared by both himself and his executioner, is that both of them have taken the first step into the Twilight Zone.'
