What the @#$%$#@ is going on in the Islamic world?

They're trying to tell us that a you-tube clip triggered all this?  Are they SERIOUS?  I thought it couldn't get any stupider than when the Muslim world went berserk after a handful of Danish cartoonists drew pictures of the prophet Muhammed, but here they are, at it again!  I tell you, there are primitive headhunters living in the remote jungles of New Guinea who are more culturally advanced than these people!  In any case, it's pretty obvious that President Obama's outreach to the Islamic world has turned out to be another dismal failure.

I found this article by Michael Walsh in today's New York Post, summing it all up quite nicely:

From Cairo to Cairo

O’s Middle East

"A New Beginning" - That’s what President Obama called his speech to the Muslim world in Cairo back in June 2009.

Speaking at al-Azhar University, an ancient seat of Muslim scholarship, Obama called for a fresh start: “based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competitionThere must be a sustained effort to listen to each other; to learn from each other; to respect one another; and to seek common ground.”

How’s that “new beginning” working out, Mr. President?

In two coordinated, planned attacks on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks Tuesday — most likely by al Qaeda — a howling, vengeful, armed Islamic mob assaulted our embassy in Cairo, ripped down and burned our flag.

Ostensibly, they were protesting an obscure short film that supposedly “insulted” Islam’s prophet Mohammad. But they gave the game away when they shouted, “Obama, Obama, there are still a billion Osamas,” and ran up the al Qaeda banner.

Even worse, in Benghazi, Libya, our consulate was incinerated and at least four Americans killed, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

The rioting has now spread to Yemen and Tunisia, while Obama has told Telemundo that Egypt is no longer a US ally.

So much for hope and change.

In fact, Obama’s “Muslim outreach” was an embrace of entrenched rulers. Both human rights and the Bush “democracy agenda” were out the window — this was going to be a tyrant-appeasing, State Department-compliant, “stable” foreign policy on the model of the first President George Bush.

He promised a rush to the exits in Iraq (even faster than the pullout already negotiated by the Bushies) and put the supposed center of all Mideast woes, the Israel-Palestine issue, at the top of his to-do list.

Oh, and offered an “open hand” to the mullahs in Iran. We’d negotiate them into shutting down their nuclear-weapons program, with some assistance from the United Nations, using the stick of sanctions ameliorated by the carrot of appeasement.

So when vast numbers of Iranians took to the streets that summer to protest a stolen election — the greatest threat since its 1979 founding to a regime that has always declared its implacable enmity to us — the administration stood by. It said nothing as long as possible, then waved a desultory finger as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s bully boys opened fire on their own young people.

After all, we needed Tehran to get back to the negotiating table and make the striped-pants set happy. Three years later, we’re still there — and the mullahs are getting very close to the bomb.

The story was little different, come the Arab Spring.

What began in Tunisia with an act of self-immolation by a street vendor fed up with official corruption in December 2010 quickly turned into revolution against entrenched Arab dictators, mostly US allies.

The administration was caught flat-footed — most especially in Egypt, where we at first supported our longtime ally, Hosni Mubarak, then dropped him.

Our Egypt strategy then was to hope their military (handsomely subsidized by the US taxpayer) could keep a share of power. Now that a Muslim Brotherhood veteran has won the presidency and purged the military, we’re hoping he’ll prove a “moderate” Brother. Good luck with that.

At least when the revolt broke out in Libya, we were willing to lead the British and French “from behind” in helping overthrow the odious Col. Khadafy. Maybe the West showing some cojones there was a factor in the fact that the Islamists didn’t win control of that new government.

On the other hand, Libya’s new rulers were too weak to prevent the al Qaeda operation in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Stevens and the others.

And we’re firmly on the sidelines in Syria’s civil war, even as Islamists increasingly take control of the revolt against bloody Bashar Assad. Whoever wins won’t be our pal.

Bottom line: Rather than placating the “Islamic world” with the conciliatory Cairo speech and “realistic” policies, this administration has unleashed chaos — then stood by as Islamists work to control the newly “free” nations and move closer to their dream of a universal caliphate.

Obama should know all this. Of all presidents, he should have a unique insight into religious and cultural Islam.

But he has other priorities. So, instead of action after the murder of our diplomats, we got a statement from the president that “strongly condemned the outrageous attack.” Then he headed off to Las Vegas, for more campaigning.

First things first.

Do you think they'll STILL want that mosque built near "ground zero" in Manhattan?

Another point worth thinking about is that for the last 30 to 40 years each of these Arab nations or Nations with influcence with Arab Islam, they have only own peace through repression, getting angry and violence (via various dictatorships have succesfully brain washed countless generations with fear rather then acceptence and tollerence and the right god gave to every single person to live on this planet with any religion (freedom of) they choose to believe.

And it will take many generations for these ideals of freedom etc that has made the west and east prosper, while their counties wealth going only through the few hands of several single family or selected indiviudals etc.

you get my point.

Human history has reached this point because Islam and the wider Arab culture has become unstaintable just as elements of democracy has also become unsustainable,(refer to the latest unauthorised topless photos of Kate the Duchess of Cambridge) there for change needs to occur to that mutual respect is brought back as part of "the new world order" which I believe is in its very early stage of development.

"it's pretty obvious that President Obama's outreach to the Islamic world has turned out to be another dismal failure."

Are you suggesting that Mitt should completely ignore the Muslim world?

I would believe that in the 21st century global economic reality this would be impossible.

"Do you think they'll STILL want that mosque built near "ground zero" in Manhattan?"

That would only convince many uneducated muslems and islamsists in the middle east that one day the whole world will become islamic with Shea and suni's still fighting against each other and killing christians and demolishing churchers in muslm areas of the world .

They lost the zone in the Spain a few hundred years ago and will loose many more zones in the future if they keep insisting with using violence and cold blooded killings as a excuse to preach the "so called word of god" = protest, attack and Kill every one.

Attack other's the way you want to be attacked, Mohamad "a former Christian" didn't say go and do that.

A religion that takes to the streets ransacking buildings, setting fires, destroying property, killing and maiming over an obscure video most have never seen or heard of ? Totally rational. And the " prime minister " of Egypt , another obscure bureaucrat no one has ever heard of, a mouthpiece spokesman for the " president " of Egypt said the U.S. gubment has to make sure this doesn't " happen again " . Totally rational.

It's the U.S. gubments fault embassies are under siege, property is destroyed and people lose there lives over a video not exactly the reincarnate of a  Warner bros. production made in some SOCAL strip center, goodness gracious if this is the U.S. gubments fault then yes the poor " repsressed street thugs " have the best marketing team since the advent of the NFL.  Back to you Howard.

Absolutely NOT!  But I think it's pretty apparent that cozying-up to them won't work, either.  The "Muslim street" is about as primitive a mob as it gets, and attempting to "reach out" to them isn't going to matter.  Islamic nut-jobs will murder Americans (and pretty much anybody else) at the drop of a hat if that's what their clerics tell them to do.  President Obama distanced himself from Israel for this?

Anti-Islamic videos don't matter.  These people are PRIMITIVE.  Remember when Newsweek magazine made-up a story about the guards at Gitmo flushing copies of the Koran down toilets?  Newsweek made it up.  No matter.  It triggered rioting in the arab streets.  You can't "reach out" to Muslims and expect them to behave.  They hate anybody who isn't a member of their Islamic faith.  Some Europeans libs have actually suggested incorporating elements of Sharia Law into their justice systems to please them.  It isn't working.  Muslims are a bunch of intolerant wackos.

Some libs here in America (e.g. Rosie O'Donnell & Joy Behar) have suggested that right-wing Christians are no different, but that's complete nonsense.  People here in the U.S. insult Christianity all the time, and lefty artists have actually put crucifixes in jars of urine or painted the Virgin Mary with elephant feces and called it art!  No rioting.  Nobody murdered.  No women raped.  Christianity is part of our western culture.  There's a world of difference between these two major religions.

One area where these latest violent attacks on our embassies (and the murder of Americans working in them) is especially damaging to President Obama is that it works AGAINST the narrative put forth at the recent Democrat National Convention that this administration has been strong on national defense.  We continually heard about how "Obama killed Osama" and how his foreign policy decisions were making the world safer for Americans abroad.  That whole line of thinking was blown to hell this past week in Cairo & Benghazi.

Instead we're seeing a president and state department that initially responded to these violent attacks by apologizing for our nation's free speech rights:  “The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims.”  That was the actual statement put out by the Cairo embassy in a failed effort to appease the Islamic radicals! Of course, an Obama administration official quickly claimed that it “was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government.”  But the truth is, the embassy’s statement perfectly reflects the views of the United States government under Obama’s stewardship. It's been Obama’s position from the very start.

This president's reaction to Mitt Romney's reaction was angrier & more outraged than with the attacks themselves, with Obama then fleeing to Las Vegas to attend yet another party fundraiser!  Got to concentrate on the campaign.  No time to look presidential.

Obama has to show his Islamic buddies he is "doing something" about all these infidels exercising their right of self expression.

Scary to think of the damage he will do to the First Amendment if reelected.

When i saw the pictures of the guy behind the infamous video i thought the same thing. He's being hauled off by the law in disgrace hidden in a shroud of disguise while the wonderful merry rock throwers and throat slashers go on about the bidness of busting up property, making a mockery of the sanctity of embassy as a safe haven as they look to kill anyone who dares to " mock them " ...

Absurd. Up is down and down is up. The pathetic part of this whole sordid affair and religion is this has nothing to do with a video, it's all about anarchy and the rule of mob mentality. 7th century in the 21st century. Anyone have a spare abacus for sale....
