The Brady vs. Manning debate is a great one. Who's the best? Who really knows? Certainly Manning is perhaps the most valuable single player ever to one team. However, that doesn't necessarily make him the best in the league.

Brady has the most clutch performances (and a better career QB rating, I think) with more post-season successes than Manning. However, Brady has the clear advantage of playing for the (undisputed) best currently active coach.

The greatness of Joe Montana and Brett Farve was tested [was it system or player?]based on the performance of both their (great in their own right) backups. But, both Montana and Farve proved themselves by playing at a high level for other teams. And yes, that's despite Farve blowing up at some crucial moments.

If you had to plug either Brady or Manning into other team's uncertain situations, the obvious choice is not so clear. Both have played well without running games and with a variety of receivers. How would Brady do without Belichick picking apart opposing defenses with the right play at the right time? Manning calls his own plays and evaluates and analyses defenses on his own. The success makes you want to take Brady, but some other factors point to Manning. I don't know....

Who would you pick (in all of the NFL) to play QB if the offensive line was weak and allowed jailbreak pass rushes?......Aaron Rodgers?

So yeah, the NFL is off to a GREAT start (as a matter of fact) and the possibilities/capabilities at the QB position has never seem stronger. Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisburger, Matt Ryan, Michael Vick, Cam Newton(?) and so on; it's going to be an interesting and entertaining season.

Can the Lions behind a young and upcoming star take it to the next level ? All depends if Stafford can play 16 games and stay on the field in one piece, which makes the NFL's talk of an 18 game scehdule ludicrous. The demands and punishment on these athletes are too much. People don't want to watch the 3rd string QB when the first two are gone by week 12...

The Brady vs. Manning debate is one that can never truly be answered definitively.  Brady has won more championships, but the fact that he has had a better supporting cast and overall squad has to be taken into consideration.  We will never really know for sure unless they exchange uniforms (which is not going to happen), but as jpatman said Manning is more valuable to his team because the Pats went 11-5 without Brady, whereas the Colts look to be in state of disarray right now without #18 calling the signals.

Whoa HOLD on there partner, maybe the Pats have won 3 SB's to the Colts ( ) UNDER Manning and co. ) not only because Brady is the better QB and has better supporting cast, but the fact that the PATS as an orginization prepared themselves for the inevitable day when THE QB gets his clocked cleaned and he can't answer the bell. In other words Matt Cassell was waiting in the wings as BRADY's back up and did a fine job in leading the Pats THAT YEAR , got traded to the Chiefs and is now a decent starter in the NFL.

Where as the Colts made no provisions for a Manningless Colts team and now have a washed up KERRY Collins muddling his way along. The PATS went 11-5 because they had a good team and a decent back-up QB to replace Brady, THE Colts lead by the owners son , Irsay had no one to back up Manning even though he is coming off neck surgery....ouch

Look at the Cowboys for proof of this. Romo goes down in the middle of an epic 1-7 collapse last year but Jerry at least made a trade the year before for a serviceable back up in Jon Kitna after they learned there lesson and HAD a WASHED UP Brad Johnson come in for Romo a year earlier and completely fail. Last year Kitna and the Cowboys go 5-3 with Romeo Down...pun intended.   It's a QB driven league, can't win without a serviceable competent QB as the Colts are learning, has nothing to do with Manning being more valubale then Brady.

The abysmal start of the Colts seems to definitely be proving your theory to be an accurate one about the NFL being a QB driven league.  It always seems to work out that way that the team that hosts the Super Bowl winds up in the end nowhere near it.  In this case, Indianapolis.  For the Colts, this season has thus far been in a pain in the neck (pun intended). The Andrew Luck sweepstakes have already begun now amongst the bad teams to see who will have the worst record in the league to thus make him the first pick in the draft.  The scouts seem to almost unanimously agree that this kid is the real deal.

Kitna comes in for a banged up Romo in S.F. and he did throw 2 picks although the second one was tipped and not his fault, defelcted. HE did however give the Pokes a veteran leader who threw a BEAUTIFUL TD on a fade route to Miles Austin to " keep hope alive " ....in an eventual win. A backup QB in the NFL is almost as valuable as a Sam Ryan date....almost....

In Week 3, the Bills overcome a 21-0 deficit in defeating the vaunted Patriots 34-31 to go 3-0 and for now anyway alone atop the AFC East.  The Lions make a similar comeback down 20-0 to ultimately win 26-23 in OT to the Vikings to also go 3-0.  Additionally, the Raiders upset the Jets 34-24, as the Giants defeat the much hyped Eagles 29-16 and how about the QB play of Cam Newton for the Carolina Panthers, who has progressed more rapidly in the NFL to this point than most experts would have thought.  All pretty unlikely scenarios I would say.

Redskins come calling tonight in Dallas with what i would call an inadequate QB to win anything substantial. Rex Grossman went to a SB with the Bears in spite of the fact he was the starter and were summarily dismantled by Payton Manning and what will probably be his only SB in a storied career.

Shame about the Colts, they look pitiful...another city hosting a SB next February ( Indy ) without the home team. There's always the snow man building contest in Indianapolis in February....brrrrrr....
