I've always liked both the US and UK versions of Shameless. In the first episode of the new season of the US version Fiona (played by Emily Rossum) swears off one night stands with men on Tinder and then meets her gorgeous lesbian tenant (played by Jessica Szhohr) in the building she owns. Gee, I wonder what's going to happen?

I don't want to get my hopes up too much. In a previous season Fiona was pursued by a character played by Amy Smart and nothing came of it. However, I have a feeling this lesbian relationship is actually going to happen.

Let's hope so. So far though not the case and I am four episodes into season 8. They have an awful lot of gay male content on the U.S. version of 'Shameless.' But unfortunately not much in the way of sexual interactions between female characters other than the Amy Smart character's futile pursuit of Fiona (Emmy Rossum), which you mentioned back in season 2 and the brief g/g encounter in accordance with the thruple with Kevin (Steve Howey) in season 7 between Veronica (Shinola Hampton) and Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter). But we could always hope.

I think it could still happen. It's possible that they introduced the tenant just to have a lesbian character but it seems like too much of a coincidence to do this while Fiona is taking a hiatus from men.

There was even less lesbian content in the UK show if you can imagine that. However, I loved the Mickey character in that version. He was still gay but instead being violent he was sensitive and tortured, not cut out to be in a gangster family.

I finished the season and nothing! I think we have to accept that Fiona is completely straight, I mean she did turn down Amy Smart. As a consolation, Jessica Szhohr and her blonde girlfriend are an extremely hot couple.

I cannot help but think that the writers of 'Shameless' squandered an enormous opportunity by not creating at least a bisexual storyline for Fiona. She has always been unlucky in love and after her last romance fizzled, she found herself searching Tinder for hookups.

What better time for her to have used Tinder, so as to hook up with a woman or when she encountered the lesbian couple you mentioned in the building, there was certainly the possibility of a lesbian threesome or triangle. But it was not to be. Just as the Veronica/Svetlana coupling was nothing more than a plot device to bring Kevin and Veronica closer.

A shame because there has not been a lesbian character developed on the show the way they have done so for Ian. The Amy Smart character from the early seasons was very much a background, supporting role, rather than a central one.

You're right, there's never been a lesbian equivalent of Ian or Mickey on the show. And Amy Smart's character had that creepy stalker thing going on.

Maybe I'm being naive but I still think it could happen between Fiona and Nessa. Their friendship has a flirty vibe and I could see them both getting unhappy in their current relationships and then hooking up.

I know that their characters were bitter enemies on the show.

But I would have loved to have seen a g/g coupling with Laura Slade Wiggins (Karen Jackson) and Emma Greenwell (Mandy Milkovich).

Emma Greenwell's character in the show The Path has a way too brief lesbian relationship.

A shame about Emmy Rossum (Fiona Gallagher) leaving 'Shameless' following the completion of Season 9.

Would have loved to have seen her character engage in a lesbian encounter.

Oh well. We shall see what kind of roles and projects Ms. Rossum will have henceforth.

As for 'Shameless', they have had an amazingly long run. Difficult to imagine that it will last any longer than one more season.

Despite the great William H. Macy leading the cast.
