Welcome back, Nica. Thanks for telling us about what had precipitated your departure from social media. Sad how the internet underscores the duality of humanity of how individuals can either use it for positive, constructive purposes or abuse it for negative, destructive ones.

Regardless of whether you ultimately return to g/g or not, you have already created a beautiful body of work which we can all be proud of. Cannot believe it has been 10 years. In some ways, it seems like a long time ago. Yet in others, it feels like only yesterday when you first started posting here. No matter where the future takes you, you are always welcome here.

Ms. Noelle, it's a genuine relief to hear that you're doing well, in spite of your harrowing ordeal. I'm truly sorry to hear that this harassment has escalated and that you've been forced to leave your job due to the actions of these loathesome individuals. If there's any justice to be had, I hope that these contemptible swine get their comeuppance in a swift and brutal manner.

While I understand Mile High's desire to maintain a certain consistency with its various brands, it's more than a little disappointing to think that this might prevent you from returning to the girl/girl genre, should that be what you ultimately decide to do. Still, if the end result is a studio all your own to preserve the integrity of your vision, then I'd call that a win for all involved. Considering that every new endeavour of yours has proven quite profitable, Mile High would be fools not to give you carte blanche and get out of your way...

I wish you and yours a happy Thanksgiving, Ms. Noelle, and pray that the coming months bring some much-needed closure on one chapter of your life and exciting opportunities with which to start the next. Whatever may come, I'm glad to know that I'll have the means to keep apprised of your various adventures. Until next we speak...

...

Oh...and I'm quite pleased that you consider me a friend, as that's how I think of you. I look forward to renewing our acquaintanceship, even if it's just by means of exchanging messages on this forum...

Always loved the "look" of your films; a bit darker in tone and more focus on the women's beautiful bodies. I've never been a fan of this overly lit stuff that almost hurts my eyes to look at. To each his own, of course.

I just hope there is room for a vision like yours in the current g/g landscape, because frankly, I'm pretty 'meh' on just about everything else. Happy Turkey Day to you and yours; so very glad you are OK.

Glad to hear you're okay, Nica! Sorry I'm a little late to this thread, but I've been busy. Too bad about your problems with gay porn too, that's a shame. I hope you'll be 'round these parts more often though. I've missed you!

Aw, thank you so much Robert! <3

I know this thread is kinda dead, but I don't want to start a whole new one for this because it's really not that big of a deal. But I posted a new Huffington Post blog to address the recent controversy about whether only women should be directing lesbian porn (you'll get the backstory within the blog).

I've never understood how to post links on here but I know some people know how to do it, so if this doesn't work can some good samaritan post a live one? Thank you so much if you can! (Oh, and also I would love to discuss this with you or answer any questions or comments you have about this topic, because it interests me. Even if you totally disagree with me and think my hot take is nonsense, I want to discuss.) Thanks guys!

Interesting topic... I heard about this "male gaze" when "The Handmaiden" (it's not a porn movie, but a lot of its scenes are not for all eyes) was released and some people complained about that "male gaze" (here, for example: https://www.buzzfeed.com/shannonkeating/the-handmaiden-and-lesbian-sex-scenes?utm_term=.sbROJzKPe#.lmo8J7owk).
And I didn't understand that, because in this movie, sex/love scenes were pretty good, better than Blue Is The Warmest Colour's ones, for example, but even if Park Chan Wook was helped by a queer woman, I don't think it's a question of gender, but of talent and sensitivity.
I'm pretty sure than 99,99% of the lesbian JAV's directors are men, but some of these movies are pretty good and even get some real emotion, like in BIBIAN movies.
In US products, it appears that some people like you, Lily Cade and Dana Vespoli release great movies and are women, but I think some male directors can do the same if they have the talent. I won't say anything about France, because my country has no luck on this field, except some queer movies and lesbian scenes that only are there before serious things (some dudes) come back.
I wrote an article about this on my tumblr blog (it's in french, but maybe I will write an english translation one of these days): http://johnnybdetoucheditions.tumblr.com/post/155482967857/le-male-gaze

Personally I'd take any article written on that cesspool Buzzfeed with a pinch of salt.

You certainly came to the right place for THAT, Nica!

"...writer Natasha Noman took to YouTube to formally announce that “lesbian porn is made by men, for men,” bears no resemblance to real lesbian sex, and should pretty much be outlawed forever."

If writer Natasha Noman is upset with tasteless XXX-garbage-porn then I can certainly sympathize with her, but a lot of us don't want "reality" lesbian-sex, either - no more than most hetero couples want to see everyday-reality-hetero-sex on video - they want exciting FANTASY-sex instead!

"This is because most porn consumers still happen to be men, and a lot of men like to watch hot porn chicks get down with other hot porn chicks"

Again, that may be the REALITY of the situation, Nica, but I certainly don't have to like it! Sadly, most male porn-directors are "a quart-low" in the talent, imagination, & creativity departments! All they understand is porn-chicks doing other porn-chicks!

"Other factors that matter more than gender when shooting lesbian porn: does the director himself enjoy lesbian scenes?"

PREACH IT, Sister Nica! I am completely convinced that a LOT of the producers & directors churning this stuff out nowadays don't even like watching it. They make NO EFFORT whatsoever to make it erotic!

"Despite my bouts of artistic fatigue and struggles with disillusionment, despite the infighting and outfighting and ridiculous industry politics, despite the mockery and isolation, despite that our paychecks will only keep shrinking and no matter how hard we work society still thinks we’re doing it wrong, porn remains my art form and the hill I want to die on."

That's AWESOME, Nica! You keep on fighting the good fight! We appreciate you!

- Lesbian erotica remains one of the HIGHEST art forms, at least I certainly believe it to be so!

Except as a game of "one up-manship" I never see much use for arguments about how something is not as "pure" as something else, as for instance Natasha Norman's argument that "lesbian porn is made by men, for men, and bears no resemblance to real lesbian sex". If a woman, lesbian or straight, does not "get off" on watching girl/girl porn, then she should probably not watch it or stop watching it. I don't see where any value judgment needs to come in.

Being a male, I am at a distinct disadvantage to appraise, or even really comment on, whether or not girl/girl porn is actually "how real lesbians have sex". But "So what?" Arguments like this in any area, whether it is "Are you gay enough, or black enough, or green enough, or whatever the grouping", strike me as simply ways to form divisiveness rather than inclusiveness, and are mostly a colossal waste of time and energy.

The truth is that it is a big wide world out there, and there are almost as many tastes, and ways of looking at the world, as there are people. We have our differences and we have our commonalities, It seems, to me, much more fruitful and productive to focus more on the "common features" than the "differences".

And as to whether or not men can create and produce good girl/girl porn, that just strikes me as another version of the same type of divisive purist argument. As far as I am concerned there are several male directors who have made some very good girl/girl movies. Others may say just the opposite, to which I would simply shrug and say, "Okay, we disagree".
