Odd as it sounds the big companies like Vivid with directors like Paul thomas had some great story driven movies back in the 90's and they shot some really hot scenes. The problem is the typical mainsream approach to shooting the sex today. It's 10-15 min of boring music and crappy scripted sex. Movies like "Passages" with christie canyon and jennifer stewert as 2 college roomates who would have fantisies about each other at night were few and far between and there was never any major effort invested in the G/G vid scripts or the direction when they had decent performers. Then you have a Viv Thomas who pulls together great models and builds good storie that you can follow and buy into. Just whatch pink velvet 1 or 3 or Butterflies. I like Girlfriends films and have most of there titles, but they need slow down the initial seductions and make the couples tell more of whats going on and change up the setups instead of just "Hey how was your day says the 40+ year old to her 19-20 somthing roommate". How about a reason why they live together just something? They tend to get away from what made them so popular. Slow real seductions slight to major hesitation followed buy full surrender and lots of passion, mix up the chase, why always older going after younger? Their best scene involved a turn of events between Leeza and Briana in les seduction 4.

I have high hopes for the new stuff comming from Girlfriends films. Triangle Films as well and especially the new films from Sydni Ellis. Those ladies are really on track and just getting started.  

Pink Velvet had a good storyline, but the new Unfaithful series looks to bring things to a whole new level.

I've always felt that the best storylines leading up to a lesbian sexual encounter were in R-rated films that didn't/couldn't follow-it-up with much in the way of a very explicit scene.  But I still loved the build-up leading up the the scene. 

A good example of this is Desert Hearts, where a recently divorced female writer from back east spends a couple of weeks in the Las Vegas area where she meets and then falls in love with a pretty cassino worker.

Loving Annabelle is a lesbian-themed film with an excellent storyline involving a female teacher and one of her pretty students.  A much older film of this genre was the German film Maedchen in Uniform!  And Lianna also involves a teacher and her student, although in that case the student is a married woman who is almost as old as the teacher she falls for.

I thought The Hunger with Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve (as victim and vampire, respectively) included an exceptionally hot scene between the two.  Another excellent lesbian-themed vampire film was Eternal!

Gia and Bound both included agressive lesbian women seducing pretty, non-lesbian girls.

And I loved the casting in Wild Things with Denise Richards and Neve Campbell making out!  I would dearly love to have seen an NC-17 version of that film with more scenes featuring these two!  Ditto for those two awesome scenes in Mulholland Drive between Naomi Watts and Laura Harring.  

I would have to have written down every movie I have seen  to remember the best story lines this very moment, but  I think that Wild Thins was  bad drive in camp and frankly Neve Campbell, while not ugly, is not superbly beautiful and the set ups where not too subtle. But no big deal.  That German movie you mention was outrageously erotic and daring for its time, though it could again have been more self-conscious. It assumed the lesbianism too much. But is it sexy and stylish to watch every time? Oh yeah.

One low budget so-called erotic thriller where the set up worked incredibly  well and the scene, even though only an unrated movie for video , made the sexyness work was The Other Woman, which beats many other offerings handily. The two women are generously endowed and beautiful, one blonde, one tanned.

There is an old porn movie called Tinseltown which I have not found on DVD, but which had the incredible  hot set up where a woman has to make ends meet , is hired by a rich guy, and just when she thinks she is entering the bedroom to make love to the guy, she is told as the door opens and she sees  a person inside that he hired her not to make love to him, but to the person sittting on the bed ....his wife. How is that for a set up? So she has to make the "moral" choice of getting out or doing something sexually unexpected... with her own sex, which she has never done...

Boy I should think about this subject more. It would be great to compile a list of worthy storylines on movies.

As far as R-rated movies go - "Aimee & Jaguar" featured a pretty compelling storyline: married Nazi housewife Lily, somewhat repressed/thwarted sexually is seduced by and falls in love with a spunky, avant-garde Jewish lesbian Felice in the midst of WW II. Based on a true story, it has some very sexy scenes including the more well-known one where Lily is trembling violently with anticipation/nerves/desire as Felice makes love to her. True, though - no explicit scenes here, though some nudity. Worth seeing, I think. Here are some stills.

I haven't been a member there in quite sometime, but I agree with in regards to Twilight Women.  Robin is quite the dominant, and Anna's non-verbal acting skills are exceptional.  I also liked the retro vids.  My only complaint was that it wasn't updated with new material often enough.
